Helping find Missing Parsis and Zoroastrians

Please bookmark this site, visit it often, and tell other Parsis and Zoroastrians about it. Thank you.

220 cases posted, 120 solved! Over one in two missing Parsi cases referred to us gets solved!

Hi and welcome to TheMissingParsi.com

My name is Ader Gandi and I live in San Francisco, California, USA. My email address is Ader@Gandi.com and AderGandi@gmail.com.

I, along with Yazdi Tantra in Bombay, started TheMissingParsi.com on October 1st. 2005.

Our idea behind the TheMissingParsi.com is simple: use the power of the Internet to help fellow Parsis and Zoroastrians connect with people they have lost touch with.

This idea came to me as a result of the many requests from fellow Parsis all over the world who would ask if I knew of someone they used to know, who they had since lost touch with, and could I help them find the person.  I would get these requests because I am the founder of www.TheParsiChronicle.com which is visited by 300 people daily.

You can write me an email at Ader@Gandi.com providing me with the details of the missing Parsi in your life. The more detail you provide, the more chances of finding the person: their approximate age, how and where you knew them from, their married and maiden names, when and where you had last contact with them, joint friends you knew, etc. PLEASE ADD "MISSING PARSI" IN THE SUBJECT LINE OF THE EMAIL, OTHERWISE YOUR EMAIL MAY NEVER REACH ME.  I will post your email on this web site, which is now being read by 100 Parsis daily.  Hopefully one of them will know the whereabouts of your missing Parsi and will respond directly to you or to me.  To see our current listing of missing Parsis, click here.

I welcome your comments and suggestions. You can subscribe to future news about Parsis and Zoroastrians by emailing Ader@Gandi.com with the words subscribe to the Parsi Chronicle in the subject line.
Here is an article that appeared in the Hindustan Times about TheMissingParsi.

My closest friend at Breeks was Adi Patel who came from (then) Bombay. We met in 1958 and I would love to be able to contact him after all these years. Warm regards, David.  If you have any info, please write directly to  and copy AderGandi@Gmail.com so it can be recorded as a solved case. Thank you.

Case #208 (Posted July 25, 2009) My name is Gulmoher Gandi (MY MOM) . I am one of the sister's of Mr. Sam Dubash who is now deceased, since 1987 I currently reside in Walnut Creek, Ca in the US. Sam had two sons one of whom is named Neville and the other Narius, although I am not sure of the second sons name as to whether it is Narius. Sam was married to an Englishwoman named Jean Taft from whom he was later divoreced quite a few years back. The family resided in Cornwall in Devon in the UK for several years. Both the sons must be about 50 years of age at about this time. It is my desire to somehow get in touch with them and any help in passing on information related to them will make me a very happy person.  Thank you for your help.  If you have any info, please write directly to adergandi@gmail.com  and copy Ader@Gandi.com so it can be recorded as a solved case. Case #207 (Posted July 23, 2009) Ader, I think this is a great service you have going.
The missing parsi case I have should be simple to solve, but I have had a lot of difficulty tracking down the right individual. He goes under the name of Sam Kerr which I know for a fact is a shortened version to amalgamate into local society as I think he lives in Australia.  He had presented on Zoroastrian and Persian Coinage at the Houston Ferzana Zoroastrian Congress Meeting in 2001 I think it was, around that year in December. Being such a massively popular guy, I am shocked it is hard to find any information on him and fear for the worst. He must be early sixties now. Any information would be great. Phone or otherwise.  Regards Farhad Aspy Fatakia Director Ora-Tech Systems (Pvt.) Ltd.Karachi, Pakistan. Case #201 (Posted July 7,2009) Dear Ader, I know this is a long shot, but my mother Navaz Anthony (born Navaz Chinoy) is trying to locate her father's family in Karachi. Her father's name was Kekashroo Chinoy and he worked in Binny's Mills. He died a long time ago (around 1944) in Karachi, but we wanted to know if there were any relatives either in Pakistan or India. I am hoping to visit Pakistan soon and would love to look them up. My grandmother Nergis Dalal (born Nargis Tarapore) (K.Chinoy's wife) left Karachi when my mother and aunt were very young and never went back, so my mother has never known that side of her family. Thanks, Cedar.
Dear Ader, I got a few more details from my mother about her father's family in Pakistan.
Father's name   Kaikushroo Nadirshah Chinoy. Worked in Edulji Dinshaw Mills, Edulji Dinshaw Ginning Factory in Arafalla, Miachannu in Punjab Gulbai Mehta Ginning Mills.  Kaikushroo was married in  the 1930's to Nergis Dorabji Tarapore from Madras. Daughter Navaz (my mother) was born in 1940 in Gulbai Mehta Hospital and Siloo born 1941. Kaikushroo had 2 sisters.  Shirin Dotiwala, and Naju Daruwala.  You can switch the surnames of the 2 sisters if nothing turns up.  Thanks Ader,

Case #200  (Posted June 28, 2009) Greetings from Cape Town! My name is George Troupe and I am a native of Kingston-upon-Hull in East Yorkshire, England. I went to Hull College of Technology 1963-1965 and had three Parsi friends at the college, namely Sam Kapadia, Danny Rustomji and Pilloo Medhora. When I went to sea in the U.K. Merchant Navy in July 1965, one of my first stops was Bombay and I met their families who all stayed in Cusrow Baug. I became particularly close friends with Pilloo Medhora who also went to sea in the mid to late 60's. He gave up the sea after a few years and I believe he married, living at 7 Shalimar Road, Acton, W3, West London. I stayed at sea for 30 years but I lost contact with Pilloo around 1970. I did a Google search for his name and it came up with a Pilloo Medhora living in Pinner, Middlesex which is West London so it could be him. Maybe he moved house to the next suburb. It was an entry on a sports page called 'the 4th game' dated the 25th January 2007 but I cannot find anything more recent. I cannot find a telephone number for him in the on-line UK telephone directory so perhaps he just has a cellphone. This is the web page entry "Name: Pilloo Medhora Location: Pinner - Middx. Sam already knows playing at Emirates is looking at 3 Nil drubbing, what goes round comes round!" I would very much like to get in touch with Pilloo again. As I am now 62 years old, Pilloo will probably be around 68. Possibly he has Parsi friends who frequent your website. Any assistance you may be able to give would be much appreciated. Many thanks. Kind regards, George Troupe Cape Town, South Africa. gtroupe@telkomsa.net  If you have any info, please write directly to gtroupe@telkomsa.net and copy Ader@Gandi.com so it can be recorded as a solved case. Thank you.

SOLVED (July 2nd, 2009) Hi Ader, I trust this finds you well. I am very happy to tell you that a gentleman by the name of  Jimmy Bomanjee took the trouble to e-mail me with Pilloo's details and we have made contact after some 35-odd years. It just goes to show that real friendships never die, even if they go on hold for a while! Living in South Africa (since the country came to it's senses) it is perhaps of some significance that Pilloo is Asian and I am European, but I found that in my 30 years of world travels, you meet some wonderful people and have unforgettable experiences if you accept people and things for what they are. Our differences, whether they be of race, colour, culture or religion, should make us interesting to each other, not be things of conflict. In the same way, here in Cape Town I have friends of Indian & Pakistani origins, along with Africans of the Xhosa and Zulu cultures. Adding spice to the mixture I also get chance to do volunteer work with refugees from Zimbabwe, D.R. Congo, Rwanda, and job seekers from Mozambique, Angola and Malawi. Cape Town is a real melting pot - a bit like London I suppose! I have to thank you Ader for creating the means for people to come together and I wish you continuing success with your website. Kind regards - George Troupe. gtroupe@telkomsa.net

Further Solved (July 9, 2009) Hi Ader, Just a line to say that I got in touch with Pilloo Medhora via Jimmy Bomanjee. As a bonus Jimmy also gave me contact details for Danny Rustomji. I then received an e-mail from Sam Kapadia whose daughter must have spotted my above posting. I started out looking for one of my college friends and ended up finding all three, thanks to your website! Much appreciated, thanks very much - George Troupe, Cape Town. gtroupe@telkomsa.net

Case #197 (Posted May 26, 2009) Dear Sir, I came upon your site quite by accident, let me add I was thrilled at my luck. I have lost touch with a few friends I knew in Mumbai in school. Dear friends who I shared a lot of laughter, tears and growing up years. We studied in the Fort Convent of Jesus and Mary in colaba in the 60s and 70s. They are married I am sure and the last time I had met them was in the late 1980s. 1. Nina Mehta now Nina Unwala lived in Brady's Flats, Sorab Barucha Road. Was in England after her marriage. Her parents: Freny and Feroz Mehta. Nina her sister anaita, and brother sharouk and I would spend the evenings playing in Khusro bagh where her grandparents lived. I cannot remember her grandfathers name, but we used to call him Jhangopapa.  2. Rhoda Rustomji I do not know her name after marriage. Lived down the road from the school and as far as my knowledge goes moved to America after marriage. Her mother if I remember correctly used to have workers who used to embroider sarees from her home. One of my wedding sarees was embroidered there. I know Rhoda has an older sister. 3. Tanaz Boywala I have no idea if she married, I know she was Rhodas first cousin and lived in the same building as Rhoda. The name of the building eludes me but I can see it in my minds eye. She worked for AirIndia for quite a while. Her mother was Rhodas fathers sister. She too had an older sister. Name eludes me.It would be nice if I could get email ids/addresses or phone  numbers, to enable me to get in touch with them. Case #196 (Posted May 24,2009) Hi Ader, Thanx a bunch for the great job you do, a few words can't substitute my gratitude towards you. A wonderful thought at getting people together. At least someone uses the internet to benefit a small community like ours. I was hoping to find an old pal of mine from J.N. Petit Technical High School, Poona (now Pune). His name happens to be Aspi Marolia, as per the info I had was that his parents lived in Baharin, but he studied in Poona in mid 70s, and later even when we were in Bombay we had known our whereabouts but around 1989 or 1990s I lost touch with him. Another person I am looking for was a great pal from Gamadia Boys Hostel during the late 80s he was with us and his name is Jamshed Sanjana, heard that he had moved to the US, but has disappeared from the face of the earth since then. Would be great to get in touch with both of them and would highly appreciate your help in that. Get back to me if possible with some news. Thanks Ader, good luck hunting them. Truly,

Case #195 (Posted May 17, 2009)  hi mr. ader, i am hoping you will be able to help me find a classmate from Nazareth Convent, Ooty.  I had a written a request around May 5, 2009 in the current listing site, but do not seem to find it now.  I take it I did something wrong and therefore, am writing this to you. I am searching for a classmate named Ruby Tumboli (maiden name).  We graduated from Nazareth Convent, Ooty in 1974.  I have very little information on her except remember something about her family owning a cinema theatre named Tamboli Talkies, perhaps in Jalgoan, Maharashtra.  I am also searching for another school friend named Dilnavaz Mehta (maiden name).  However, she was much my senior and graduated from the same school around 1969 or 70.  Somewhere down the line we heard that she was in Canada.  If anyone can shed some light on these two individuals, it will be greatly appreciated.  Thanks for your help and foresight to set up such a valuable site.  Take care.  If you have any info, please write directly to Mehtakk@aol.com and copy Ader@Gandi.com so it can be recorded as a solved case. Case # 194 (Posted May 17, 2009)  Hello Ader, Thank you for your generous work with this site. I am looking for my friend Dinaz Deboo.  This is her maiden name and she used to live at Parel with her parents, brother and granny.  Her brother's a Chartered Accountant and I think they had a family business.  I recalled the family had moved to Marine Drive (I think above Kaysons/Kala Niketan sarees stores).  She did get married, but I can not recall her married last name. We attended classes for the Institute of Company Secretaries of India at Sydenham College around 1986, 1987.  I have lost touch with her for a long time now and would like to re-connect. I would appreciate if you could help by posting this on your site.  Thanks for all your help to me and the society in general. Case #193 (Posted May 10,2009) Hello! I hope you can post this on your website. I am a 27 year old male living in Sydney, Australia and have spent the last 5 or more years building my family’s family tree – I have it going back to the early 1700s in Bombay and Ahmedabad. I am trying to complete a family tree for my wife’s family and whilst I have a lot of information, I am missing one part of it. My wife’s name is Rakhshandeh Appoo, nee Hira. Her family is from Karachi. However, her maternal grandmother, Nargiz Patel’s mother – Putlibai Anklesaria was from Bombay and therefore my wife’s maternal grandmother (Nargiz) knows very little about her mother’s family. I am looking for any information on Putlibai Anklesaria’s family. The information I have is that her father was Dadabhoy Anklesaria (1866 to 1941), and her step-mother was Najamai (her birth mother died very young). Putlibai had 4 half-brothers who’s names were Godrej, Padam, Dhunjibhoy and Nadrishah.  Dadabhoy (the father), owned a famous furniture shop on the main street in Pune. Godrej owned a large fruit orchard in Pune and was married. He was born in approx 1898 and died in 1972, and apparently had no children. Nadrishah was a famous physician from Bombay and died in a motor cycle accident. He was born in approx 1900 and died in 1928. He was never married. Padam was borh in around 1900 and died in 1956, and was an Instructor General at the Police Training Institute at Nasik, near Poona. He settled in Bombay after marriage and apparently had no children. Dhunjibhoy was the only brother to have  a child/children. He took over his father’s famous furniture shop on a main road in Pune. Apparently this furniture shop is still around but has been locked for years. He was married and had at least 1 child. I am looking for any info on this family. I believe the only living members would be possibly Dhunjibhoy’s child/children and grandchildren etc. The biggest lead I have is that they had a furniture shop on the main road in Pune. Hope you can help! Case #186 (Posted April 16, 2009) . Dear Ader, I had the following mail from a friend of mine asking for help to locate someone. The details are as follows. Would appreciate if you could help. You could reply to Clare Lashkary on the following email address,  if Aban Mundroina is located. clareen02@yahoo.com Many thanks. Viraff Coorlawalla. "The friend I am talking about is Aban Mundroina who studied with me in an art school in Pune - Abhinav Kala Vidyalaya. She used to live in Cantonment area in an old, appartment style house at the end of Main-Street, not far from Cantonment Veg- market Her father Jamshed  worked as a sales-person at Dorabjee's, her mom worked in Hotel Blue Diamond. She has a sister Veera and a brother Rohinton who's the youngest in the family.  Aban's husband, Khusroo Wadia was her childhood friend from Byculla-Mumbai. They got married in '76 or '77 I'am not sure. I never saw her again...she was full of mischief but a very nice human being and I used to visit her house quite often.  Wonder where she is ?  I looked up People-Search, alternating names/surnames but came upon a  "Aban" and Khusroo Wadia as a family member, settled somewhere in PA-USA !!  I dont think it might be the same person, but if she's somewhere there, I'd love to see her since I an going to US anyway."

SOLVED (February 10, 2010) Hello Ma'am, came across your query on TheMissingParsi.com  I am an avid follower of the website and i saw your particular query for a certain Aban Mundroina. Firstly... i looked around a bit on the internet and i found Veera Mundroina's number -932380XXXX. If she is the same Veera who you mentioned as a sister of Aban then you are lucky. Secondly ...and the best part...i found a certain Aban Wadias profile on Facebook via Veera Munudroina's profile - i think she is the Aban khusroo Wadia you are looking for http://www.facebook.com/people/Aban-Wadia/1044488396.
Hope this is helpful.

Case #170 (Posted January 20, 2009) Hi Ader, I am trying to locate my best school pal, Pervez Jokhi.  We were at St. Xavier's High School in Bombay.  We studied to gather in sixth standard and in ninth standard.  Ninth standard will be of particular interest to Perviz as we had a very strict teacher and tyrant -- Paul Frank. We lost contact after finishing school.  After college Perviz went to Hong Kong to join his uncle (KAKA) in business.  I believe he is nephew of the great philanthropist Mr. Jokhi of Hong Kong. Perviz would be about the same age as myself which 71 years old. My name is ASPI SHROFF and I reside in England, West Molesey, SURREY. Solved February 8, 2009 Hi Ader, After submitting the details on TheMissing Parsi web, I am delighted to inform you that I received an e-mail from Jimmy Bomanjee who was kind enough to give me a contact phone number in Hong Kong.  I contacted Parvez and had chat with him.  This was after nearly fifty years.  Many thanks to you and Jimmy and hope we continue to locate our fellow Zorastrian dispora and bring them to gather on cyber space at the least. Once again many thanks and God Bless. Aspi

Case #169  (Posted January 20, 2009) Dear Ader, Congratulations on your website, i think its a fantastic idea and you are doing a wonderful job. I wonder if you could help me.  I am the great grand daughter of Jamshedji Framjee Madan of Calcutta. I am in the process of making a family tree of the Madan Family. Jamshedji had 12 children of which my grand father Burjor was the eldest son.  So i am looking for any decendents of Jamshedji to help me complete my family tree. So far i have been able to list 210 persons, but there are several gaps to fill still. Many thanks Gool (Madan ) Ardeshir gool@rediffmail.com If you have any info, please write directly to gool@rediffmail.com and copy Ader@Gandi.com so it can be recorded as a solved case. Thank you.

Related Connection May 4, 2009. Dear Ms.Gool, Let me introduce myself. I am a retired film maker (documentary) and film historian . I have written extensively on Indian cinema, both fiction and non-fiction. Among my publications are So Many Cinemas- The Motion Picture in India (1996-Eminence Designs), The Art of Cinema-An Insider's Journey through fifty years of film history (Penguin 2005), From Raj to Swaraj-The Non-Fiction film in India (Penguin 2007), A revised and updated reprint of So Many Cinemas to be brought out by Penguin sometime this August titled Indian Cinema- A Passage to Bollywood. I have been on the trail of J.F.Madan and his work for well over 50 years. In fact when I was filming in Darjeeling in 1987 I happened to walk into a store and was pleasantly surprised to a portrait of JF on the wall. I had a lively chat with the owner (a grandson). As you can see my main interest in the Madan family (JF and JJ ) has been their enormous contribution to the film industry in India. Unhappily very little material-text, illsutrations, films- have survived. I tried very hard in Calcutta but to no avail. Currently I am finishing a book on the Indian Silent Cinema (again Penguin). Madan's contribution during this period 1917-1931 and beyond was formidable. I should be most grateful if in your research apropos the family tree, you have come across someone with any material written or illustrated with whom I could correspond. Unfortunately I have not come across a good photograph of either JF or JJ. I would love to have a copy for my book and I shall duly acknowledge this help.

Case #165  (Posted January 3, 2009) Hello, What a wonderful website, just reading through the pages brings back so many memories. I grew up in Nariman Building across from the Cooperage bandstand which used to be Wadia House and was owned at one time by my dad Homi Wadia who passed away when I was a child. My grandpa was Sir Bomanji Wadia who was the chief justice of Bombay during the British raj. In the early 80's, I moved to the States. I am trying to locate an old school friend from Cathedral school called Perzon Zend. Perzon and his family lived in a multi colored building at the end of the road where Campion school is. I remember there being some kind of Navy facility across from the building. One of the roads of that intersection lead to Colaba causeway while one lead to the road where fort convent school and a beautiful church used to be. The other road went out in the cuffe parade direction. Perzon would now be in his mid to late forties. He had an older brother called Zorast and a younger brother. They lived with their dad in this multicolored building whose name evades me. Your help in getting us re-united would be much appreciated. I now live in the San Francisco bay area where I work in the IT field.

Best regards, Khushru Wadia
